Imran Khan's Prison Transfer: Islamabad Jail Plan Revealed (2026)

A bold move is underway by the PML-N-led federal government, as they plan to relocate former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to a newly constructed prison in Islamabad. This shift is expected to take place within the next two months, once the Islamabad jail is fully operational. Currently, the federal capital lacks any dedicated prison facility.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi addressed the passing-out ceremony of the Islamabad Police, stating that Imran Khan's transfer to the new Islamabad jail is imminent. He emphasized the availability of advanced medical facilities within the prison, ensuring appropriate care for Khan's health concerns.

"The Islamabad jail will be ready within two months. We have state-of-the-art medical facilities inside. Since Imran Khan was sentenced by an Islamabad court, it is only fitting that he serves his time in the capital's prison," Naqvi explained.

Imran Khan has been detained at Adiala Jail since September 2023, and the federal government has recently assured the Supreme Court of providing him access to specialist eye doctors for a comprehensive medical assessment. This assurance comes amid growing concerns over Khan's deteriorating eyesight while in custody.

Salman Safdar Advocate, acting as the Supreme Court's amicus curiae, visited Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on Tuesday and submitted a detailed seven-page report the following day. In the report, Khan expressed that despite receiving treatment, including an injection, his vision in the right eye remains at only 15%.

This revelation has sparked widespread concern and debate, with the PTI alleging that Khan is being subjected to solitary confinement, a practice that violates national and international laws.

The interior minister highlighted the significance of this day for the federal police, acknowledging their efforts in establishing a dedicated force to combat terrorism.

"We are proud to have initiated this crucial step three months ago. The course, originally scheduled for six months, was completed in half the time due to the tireless efforts of our officers. It is a testament to their dedication," he said.

And here's where it gets controversial... Some may argue that the government's decision to transfer Imran Khan to a new prison is a strategic move to control his access and influence. Others might see it as a necessary step to ensure his safety and provide him with adequate medical care. What do you think? Is this a fair and just decision, or does it raise more questions than it answers? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
